So, at Drake University, which is the school I attend for my BFA in Musical Theatre, I recently was cast in a one-act play called Zoo Story by Edward Albee. It is EFFED UP. It is seemingly this sweet, slightly comical story about an uptight man met with a shabby, crazy park-dweller, but it takes a very interesting turn toward the end.
You start reading it, and you think,"Oh, the uptight man is going to have a realization that life isn't so bad, and he is going to help out the crazy guy." Not at all.
The reason I'm spouting about this is because we had our first read-through today, and I was much more interested in the play than I had intended. It is also pretty anti-type for me. I play an uptight, normal guy, which would be a first.
This play is going to be a big challenge, and I am ready for it. I cannot wait to get in the process, and really dig in to the play's meaning, which I still have yet to pin down.
Other than that, my next couple days will be lonely, so expect blogs. My friends are headed off to a big audition for acting students in the Mid West, which I mistakenly didn't sign up for.
BLAH BLAH BLAH.
